4 Things You Should Start Before You Start a Business

Updated: Mar 9, 2022

This article will talk about things other than the clichés everyone knows that they should do before starting a business.

Starting a business from the ground up takes hard work - but you knew that and wouldn't be here if you didn't.

Though there are several business types, models, etc., business owners should all have a basic understanding of people and their product - that you also knew.

What you may not know though is that there are qualities of business owners and there are qualities of GREAT business owners.

Keep reading to find out what YOU can start doing before you even get your product/service out there to become the GOAT.

Start Cultivating Gratitude

"Acknowledging the good that you already have in your life is the foundation for all abundance." - Eckhart Tolle

With this one, I want you to think deeper than the surface level, okay? We're not just talking manners and saying "thank you" every time someone does something out of their way for you. We're talking about gratitude in a sense of perspective, decisions, and spirit.

When starting a business, it is easy to start with the end goal in mind, right? "I need to do XYZ so that I can have this by that time." "I need to get clients quickly so that I can go on that vacation in 6 months." Sound familiar, yet?

Stop. Right. There. When we focus on the endgame, we can QUICKLY lose sight of why we got into business in the first place. Though everyone's "WHY" is different, we all feel like our products or services can impact lives (and they can!).

Starting a practice of gratitude - REALLY being thankful and showing thankfulness for what and who you ALREADY have - will set you up to receive an abundance of blessings that are sure to come your way.

How can you start this practice? Easy. Each day, physically write down and reflect on THREE things that you are grateful for consistently for 30 days. Anything from the weather, your health, to nourishing breakfasts can work.

Try it. You'll be thankful that you did :)

Start Reading

Lifetime learning is part of being a business owner. Reading as a business owner is CRUCIAL.

Personal development has several benefits - that you may know - but, did you know that millionaires read an average of one business book a month?

Why is it really important? Making reading a priority can not only launch you forward, but it can also help you: to empower others, create content, give direction, tips and inspiration.

Where do we suggest you start? Psychology of Winning by Dennis Waitley

"It is what you read when you don't have to that determines who you will be when you can't help it." - Oscar Wilde

Start With The Customer In Mind

You are creating a product or service for the world because you want to make an impact, but... IT'S NOT ABOUT YOU!

Did you know that on a sales call (or just when conversating in general) you are more likely to be successful when you listen 70% of the time while only talking for 30%? LESS IS MORE. The more you paint the customer in the best light, the more likely you are to be successful.

What's the most important part? You have to know that your customer is not buying your product or service. They are buying what the product or service will do for their lives.

Focus on this and you'll go far! Start by implementing client centered messaging. Who is your ideal client? What do they like to do that isn't work? What do they want?

JUST START!

GET IT OUT THERE!

I hear you. "It's not perfect yet!" "I just need this one last thing."

Stop overanalyzing. The people NEED what you have and you know that if you wait until the right time, it will never come.

Believe in yourself. You got this!
